The end of understanding in any field is always emptiness. At first this is an empirical observation; it is what we have seen so far. Then it becomes a principle; it is what we expect. Eventually, we achieve a state where there is no beckoning transcendence that we have not understood and rendered void; it is the blank that we know to extend on all hands as far as the writ of reason is believed to run.
